Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 21, 2026
Scroll The Word (“the App”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address, display name, and an optional handle. If you upload a profile avatar, that image is stored on our server. If you choose to verify your identity via phone (for example, when applying for Scroll The Word+ host access), your phone number is collected for verification purposes only and is encrypted at rest.
User-generated content. Notes, highlights, reflections, bookmarks, perspectives, comments, and study progress you create within the App are stored in our database so they can be synced across your devices.
Preferences & settings. Theme choice, preferred Bible translation, and display toggles are saved in your browser’s local storage and, when you are logged in, on our server via your user settings.
Usage data. We may log basic request information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and debugging purposes. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App.
- To sync your content and settings across devices.
- To display your public contributions (perspectives, group comments) to other users.
- To send transactional emails such as email verification, group invitations, and event reminders.
- To deliver group communications sent by group leaders through the platform. If you are a member of a group, the leader of that group may send emails to members via Scroll The Word. You can manage or unsubscribe from group emails through your group settings.
- To respond to bug reports or feedback you submit.
- To protect against abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
- We do not serve advertisements.
- We do not use third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or social-media SDKs.
4. Cookies & Local Storage
The App uses a server-side session cookie to keep you logged in. We also use your
browser’s localStorage to persist preferences (theme, translation,
display settings) for a faster experience. No third-party cookies are set.
5. Data Retention
Your account data and content are retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed from our systems. Anonymised or aggregated data may be retained for operational purposes.
6. Data Security
Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and never stored in plain text. Sensitive user profile information (such as phone number, address, birthday, and other group profile fields) is encrypted at rest in our database using authenticated encryption. Only your name and email address are stored unencrypted. All connections to the App are served over HTTPS. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no system is completely secure.
7. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Access and update your profile information from the Profile page.
- Export a copy of your personal data from your Profile settings.
- Delete your account, which removes your personal data from our servers.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
